"Research indicates that many strategies can work. Good teachers acknowledge and encourage children’s efforts, model and demonstrate, create challenges and support children in extending the capabilities, and provide specific directions and instruction. All of these strategies can be used in the context of play and structured activities."

"The reason they weren't succeeding had nothing to do with their innate intelligence but had to do with the fact that they needed the tools to be able to survive and thrive in the public school system."
Louise Derman Sparks

"It's not all about you. You gotta take your ego out of it and think about what's best for the child and you care about them enough to help them transition to what comes next."

"When I think of the word passion and the meaning of the word passion, what comes to mind is what are my values? What are my beliefs? what are the ideas that lead me to action? What do I do so naturally that perhaps seems natural to me but challenging to others? What's in my heart?

Sparks made a good point in her quote about having the tools to learn. I believe the tools a teacher has and making learning fun will increase the knowledge of the children. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of the Perry Preschool Project and enjoy implementing their High Scope Curriculum Approach to learning. I completed a 4 day training this summer on High Scope and absolutely loved it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shovonne, it is important to have the tools to be able to survive and thrive in school system. Our students must be provided with the tools and resources to be academically successful.
High-quality, active learning program help provide that.
I really love the words from Louise Derman Sparks. I have an excerpt from her too. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe quote you posted from Dr. BredeKamp is awesome. Acknowledging, modeling and encouraging children's efforts is the key to a successful student. She was a key person at NAEYC.
ReplyDeleteItard's perservance shows that with good instruction and meeting the child's needs can impact the child's ability to learn. Also, Itard's work supports the cliche that ALL CHILDREN CAN LEARN!
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ Renatta Cooper, it's not about us, it's all about the children, and once we take ourselves out of the equation, then we can begin to find the answer.
ReplyDeleteI liked the wuote by Leticia Lara. I too beleive that in order to know what your passion is, you have to follow your heart, beleifs and values. Great Quotes!!!!
